Register's ledger (credit system), 1801-1829.

Lists balanced accounts of the Chillicothe land office. Each entry includes dates, purchaser's name, purchaser's residence, and reason for disbursement or receipt. Land purchase entries also include quarter section, section, township, range, number of acres, rate per acre, total purchase price, amount of payment, receipt number, and remaining balance. Accounts represented include cash and stock accounts, commission accounts, discounts, forfeitures, interest accounts, deposits, and debits to the U.S. treasury.

An act of Congress dated May 10, 1800, established federal land offices in Steubenville, Cincinnati, Chillicothe, and Marietta to facilitate the sale of land in the Northwest Territory. The last federal land office in Ohio at Chillicothe closed in 1876 and all federal land office records were transferred to the Auditor of State's Office in 1877.
